Dictation software price: Free, Pro and Max

Free: 2,200 words a week

The Free plan has no end date: 2,200 words a week, reset every 7 days, for as long as you like, with no card. (Separately, you can try Max free for 7 days from inside the app.) See the free plan for how the allowance works.

Pro: unlimited dictation

Pro takes the weekly limit away and keeps everything in Free: every app, Vocabulary and Advanced formatting. Advanced formatting is off until you switch it on in Settings, and it is on every plan.

Max: Genius Mode and Smart Edits

Max is everything in Pro, plus two tools for text you have already written.

Genius Mode changes any text by asking. Highlight it in any app, press Ctrl + D on Windows, ⌥ Option + D on a Mac and say what you want, such as “make this more professional” or “turn this into a bullet list”. The result replaces your text where it was. Always highlight the text first.

Smart Edits is a screen for rewriting. Pick one of 31 writing styles, such as an email, a LinkedIn post or meeting notes. Set the tone, the length and how heavy the edit should be. Your original sits on the left and the rewrite on the right.

Monthly or yearly

Pay monthly if you want to be able to stop at the end of any month. Pay yearly and you get 4 months free, which is the better deal if you already know you will keep dictating. All prices are in US dollars.

Which plan fits

Free is for trying Talkativ properly, or for a little dictation each week. Pro is for anyone who dictates every day and does not want a limit. Max is for people who also rewrite: replies that need a friendlier tone, notes that need to become a list, drafts that need a different style.

If you are not sure, start on Free. You can try Max for 7 days from the app without a card, then decide.

Try Max free for 7 days

Free accounts that have not had a trial yet can start 7 days of Max from the Home screen in the app. There is no card and nothing to cancel. When the 7 days end you drop to Free automatically, with no surprise charge. It is one trial per person.

Upgrading and cancelling

Everything to do with your plan happens inside the app. Go to Settings, then Subscription: you upgrade there, and the Manage subscription button is where you change your billing or cancel. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. You cannot buy a plan on this website, so download Talkativ first.

Talkativ runs on Windows 10 and 11. The Mac version has the same plans. Read about Talkativ for Mac, see the questions people ask, or go back to the Talkativ homepage.
