Voice to text for the work you already do
Most of a working week is words: replies, updates, summaries, the long message you keep putting off. Talkativ turns your voice into those words in whatever app you have open.
Click into a text box, press Ctrl + Space on Windows, ⌥ Option + Space on a Mac, and talk the way you would to a colleague. Press it again when you are done. Your words appear a moment later, where your cursor is, with punctuation and capital letters added and “um” and “uh” removed.
Voice to text software that works in every app
You do not work in one app, so your dictation should not either. Talkativ types into Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Word, Google Docs, Notion, Asana, Jira and anywhere else you can type. It runs on Windows. It runs on a Mac too. Read about Talkativ for Mac.
The mic dot at the bottom of the screen tells you where you are: red while it listens, blue while it works on your words, green when they have landed. You can click it instead of using the shortcut.
Clear your inbox by speaking
A typical morning looks like this. You open an email, press Ctrl + Space on Windows, ⌥ Option + Space on a Mac, say “thanks Priya, Friday works, I’ll send the revised budget before then”, and press it again. A short, punctuated reply is in the box a moment later. Read it, send it, move on.
The same habit helps in chat. A thoughtful Slack reply that you would normally skip because it takes too long becomes a few seconds of talking.
Meeting notes and follow-ups
Talk through the notes straight after a meeting while you remember them. Say who owns what and by when, then tidy it up in your notes app. With Advanced formatting on, “firstly, secondly, finally” becomes a numbered list, and times, amounts such as $2 million and email addresses are written the usual way. It is off by default, and every plan has it.
Your own words, spelt right
Talkativ writes what it hears, so a colleague’s name, a client or a project code can come out wrong the first time. Add them to Vocabulary and Talkativ listens out for them, so they are more likely to come out right. It is on every plan, including Free. It is a word list, not voice training.
Rewrite and reshape with Genius Mode
On the Max plan, Genius Mode changes text you highlight. Select a rough paragraph, press Ctrl + D on Windows, ⌥ Option + D on a Mac, and say “make this friendlier but keep it firm” or “turn this into a to-do list with owners”. The result replaces your selection. Smart Edits, also on Max, offers 31 writing styles for longer pieces.
What it will not do
- It needs an internet connection and does not work offline.
- You cannot change the shortcut. Click the mic dot if the keys clash with another tool.
- It can mishear names and unusual words, so read before you send.
- Words appear after you stop, not while you speak.
- Some apps running with extra permissions can block pasting.
Plans
Free is 2,200 words a week, reset every 7 days. A busy inbox can pass that, and then Pro is unlimited for $7 a month or $56 a year. Max is $11 a month or $88 a year, with a 7-day trial in the app and no card. You upgrade and cancel inside the app. See the details in the free plan.
